Second Floor

  • St. John's Chapel - All are welcome. Attending Mass is not a requirement at Newman. However many students participating in the services find it helps build bonds with the Newman community. The chapel can also serve as a quiet place to relax, collect your thoughts and get away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of campus.
    • Located just inside the main, east entrance. For Mass times, click here.
  • Campus Ministry - Open to Catholic and non-Catholic students through service learning trips and retreats. Father Joseph Tatro, University chaplain, is the director. Father Joe also teaches theology, and hosts "Stump the Priest," a student favorite.
    • Located just south of St. John's Chapel.
  • The Heritage Room, Admissions Offices / Campus Visitor's Center, Business Office
    • Located northeast of St. John's Chapel.
  • President's Office
  • Financial Aid / Student Accounts - Financial Aid assists students in determining funding options for college, including scholarships, grants and loans. Student Accounts is where students pay the remainder not covered by financial aid. On-campus job paychecks or stipends can also be picked up here.
    • Located in the west wing.
  • Registrar's Office - Handles transcript information and class enrollment.
    • Located in the west wing.

    • Located in the west wing.
  • Classrooms
  • Academic and Student Affairs Office - It is a unique feature of Newman that academic and student affairs are combined in one area.

  • Student Support Services - Provides integrated services to empower students to realize and achieve their goals and helps them make successful academic, career and personal transitions.
    • Career Services - Career guidance, job searches, career classes, resumè assistance and personal counseling.
    • Math Center / Writing Center - Students having difficulty with math or writing receive free peer-to-peer tutoring here. Those who succeed in math or writing can get an on-campus job tutoring fellow students.
    • The Hangar - A student computer lab equipped with 21 computers. A high volume printer can be accessed for academic printing.

History of Sacred Heart Hall

  • Completed in 1921 for $175,000, it replaced the original bishop’s residence and housed both the convent and the girls’ school.
  • In 1942, St. John’s Chapel was extended to the west and the west wing was added.
  • Remodeled in 1966 to provide a Campus Activity Center for students in the basement, with administrative offices on the main floor.
  • St. John’s Chapel was redecorated in 1951 and renovated in 1993.
