Metanoia

The Faith-based Floor - A Catholic Community

What’s it mean?

Metanoia
Metanoia: “change of heart” (Greek origins)

Who are we?

  • We are the Metanoia community here on campus, seeking to promote a lifestyle founded firmly in faith—especially in these new, busy college years.
  • True to the university, we are Catholic but also welcome any and all students interested in sharing the Christian faith.
  • We strive to uphold values that glorify God, enrich human dignity, encourage academic growth, and serve the community.
  • Residents of Metanoia accomplish these goals through accountability partners. These people are friends with whom a person forms a close relationship, helping one another to strengthen their faith and to see Christ in the other.
  • We’re a community committed to four main ideals:
    • Spirituality
    • Community Life
    • Academics
    • Outreach to the Campus Community
All these achieved through activities such as: Daily Prayer times, Opportunities for Mass and Meditation, Movie and Game Nights (open to the entire campus), Tutoring or Group Study chances with members on the floor, and Service projects through Newman.

Metanoia – A Faith Community

Metanoia means, “an on-going conversion of mind and heart,” and at Newman it is the faith-based community in Beata Hall. Students who live there incorporate prayer into their daily schedules, and hold each other accountable in this time of critical formation into adulthood. They circulate faith on campus by hosting a welcoming atmosphere, prayer, and social time on their floor.

Each member of the floor receives a Holy Family medal upon entrance. What’s it for? To remind us that we a part of a Church bigger than ourselves—we are the universal Church. Thus, we treat each other as the Holy Family would.

Metanoia currently resides on the 3rd floor of Beata Hall—a suite-style residence hall. Each “pod” sports five bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchenette, and a living room.
The spacious lobby area between the four pods on each floor provides for much of our social and daily prayer time.
