Freshman and Transfer Merit Scholarships
Cardinal Newman Scholarship
Named after John Henry Cardinal Newman, this scholarship is the top academic award offered at Newman. The scholarship amount for 2008-09 is $16,574 annually ($66,000+ over four years) plus $2,000 annually ($8,000 over four years) in housing grant. 2009-10 amounts will be released upon determination of tuition rates.
Requirements:
- 4.0+ HS GPA
- 30+ ACT (or equivalent SAT)
- Must complete 64 community service hours annually
- Must maintain 3.4 cumulative GPA
- Available to first-time full-time freshman only
Presidential Scholarship
The Presidential Scholarship recognizes high academic achievement. This award is $12,000 annually ($48,000 over four years).
Requirements:
- 3.8-3.9 HS GPA
- 28-29 ACT (or equivalent SAT)
- Must complete 64 community service hours annually
- Must maintain 3.3 cumulative GPA
- Available to first-time full-time freshman
Board of Trustees Scholarship
This academic scholarship is available to freshman and transfer students. The award is $8,000 annually ($32,000 over 4 years).
Requirements:
- 3.3-3.79 HS GPA or 3.3 + Cum. College GPA – freshman and transfer students
- 23-27 ACT (or equivalent SAT) – freshman students only
- Must maintain 3.0 GPA
Newman Grant
The Newman Grant is available to freshmen and transfer students. This award is $5,000 annually ($20,000 over 4 years).
Requirements:
- 2.0-3.29 HS GPA or 2.0- 3.29 Cum. College GPA – freshman and transfer students
- 18-22 ACT (or equivalent SAT) – freshman students only
Co-curricular Scholarships
ASC Community Leader Scholarship
In keeping with the mission of Newman University and the mission of our founders the Adorers of the Blood of Christ (ASC), this scholarship program acknowledges community service. Students selected as ASC Community Leader Scholars will participate in leadership and service classes as well as providing community service. The scholarship is $3,000 annually ($12,000 over 4 years).
Requirements:
- 3.0+ cumulative HS GPA
- Outstanding community service
- Program application deadline of Jan. 15
- Interview required
- 90 hrs community service annually
- 4 years of service classes
- Available to first-time full-time freshman
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
Newman University recognizes Phi Theta Kappa members by awarding this scholarship. The award is $3,000 annually ($6,000 over 2 years).
Requirements:
- Must be a member of Phi Theta Kappa prior to enrollment with Newman University
- Membership validated on Community College transcripts
Athletics
Athletic scholarships are given to students involved in varsity athletics who meet NCAA eligibility requirements. Amounts of the scholarships are varied and are at the discretion of coaches.
Fine Arts
Fine Arts Scholarships are given to students who are involved in Newman University Fine Arts programs, Amounts of the scholarships are varied and are at the discretion of the program directors.

Need-Based Financial Aid
De Mattias Grant (Need-Based)
Newman University offers need-based grants to those who qualify.
Newman University Housing Grants
The housing grant is available to students interested in on-campus housing. The grant award is up to $2,000 annually.
Requirements:
- Students must live in NU residence halls
- Students must have a minimum of 14 meals per week plan
- Students must file FAFSA
- Students must accept all federal/state grants and loans
- Students must demonstrate additional unmet need

Community College Associate Degree Incentive Scholarship
Transfer students are eligible for a $3,000 scholarship if they have completed a two-year degree from a community college located in Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri, or Colorado.
Information about this award:
- A student must have earned an associate’s degree from a community college.
- A student must enroll in a bachelor’s degree at program at Newman University.
- This scholarship is available to both domestic and international students.
- This scholarship will be awarded to students regardless of which bachelor’s degree program the student chooses.
- This scholarship is not available to students from WTI, WATC, or other technical schools.
- The total amount of this scholarship is $3,000. It is disbursed over two years: $1,500 per year at the rate of $750 per semester.
- This scholarship is not available to students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree.
