The department offers two biology degrees, the bachelor of arts and the bachelor of science.
If you are interested in combining biology with another major (chemistry, communication, education, English, etc.) you should pursue the bachelor of arts degree.
If you are interested in pursuing a graduate degree in biology or a career in health-related fields you should opt for the bachelor of science degree. Some professional health-care programs have their own special requirements (You should consult your advisors once attending Newman).
Bachelor of Science
- For pre-med majors
- For students pursuing a degree in a health-related field
- Pre-dental, pre-veterinary, pre-optometry, pre-physician’s assistant, pre-occupational therapy, pre-physical therapy, etc.
- For students pursuing a graduate degree
- For students pursuing a career in Biology
Bachelor of Arts
- For double majors in Biology and Chemistry/Education/Communication/etc.
Graduation Requirements
- 124 total credit hours
- 40 hours upper-division credit
- 30 resident hours
- Cumulative G. P. A. 2.0 or higher
