Counseling Career Options
The counseling undergraduate degree prepares students for a professional career and for graduate study in counseling, social work and human services.

Carefully planned internship experiences complement the studeNU Studentnts’ course work. Counseling graduates spend 600 hours learning the practical aspects of the profession.

Close connections to state and community programs exist, governmental agencies and other public and private organizations along the entire continuum of care for clients and families involved in addictions and the criminal justice system.

Newman University counseling graduates have been employed in such varied settings as hospital-based treatment programs, probation and parole, private practice settings, community corrections, agencies serving youth and families, programs serving a diverse clientele, halfway houses for women and children, as well as programs serving elderly clients, to name just a few. Most counseling graduates apply for and are accepted into graduate schools of social work and counseling.
