Rose is the coordinator of the counseling degree program at Newman University. Rose has been at Newman since 1991 and has developed the program from an addiction counseling curriculum to incorporate the changing demands in human services by adding emphases in criminal justice studies and working with children and adolescents.

Rose was on the curriculum committee that initially established the counseling standards for counselors working in substance abuse programs as well as the changes in those requirements in 2001. He has worked with and has been a member of substance abuse and chemical dependency counselors associations since 1970 and has developed programs in Topeka, Kan.; Wichita, Kan.; Baton Rouge, La.; Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas; and Sioux City, N.D.

Completing a doctorate in Counseling Psychology in 2003, Rose has continued his education by enrolling in the Masters in Social Work program at NU. He has also been invited to the editorial board of the Journal of Border Research. His special interests include the etiology of violent behavior, the paternal influence in families, and ethical practices in human services.
