Providing the understanding and tools to put your creativity, daring and dedication to work
Wichita, Kan., advertises itself as the “Air Capital of the World.” How did the city come to claim that title? Because of its entrepreneurs.
Cessna, Lear Jet (now part of Bombardier), and Beech (now Raytheon) were all started by Wichita entrepreneurs. In addition, many other well known national firms are products of the Wichita entrepreneurial community, including Pizza Hut, Residence Inn, White Castle, Coleman, and Rent-A-Center.
Newman University has created a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program with an Entrepreneurship emphasis that capitalizes on that spirit, by providing students the understanding and tools to put their creativity, their daring and their dedication to work. Students are encouraged to explore and expand their own innovative ideas, even their own dreams. They are challenged to develop opportunities and to look at all facets of what it takes to bring a product or service to market.
Not every student in the entrepreneurship major will be the next Michael Dell of Dell Computers or Fred Smith of Federal Express. Yet all will be better practitioners of the art of business because of their studies. Even if they opt to work in large, established organizations, their preparation from the entrepreneurship program of study will serve them well as “intrapreneurial” leaders – or those who use entrepreneurial skills inside an organization. After all, entrepreneurship is not a job – it’s a state of mind! |
