B.B.A. Finance - Degree Requirements
This professionally oriented program of study is a fully integrated curriculum; the finance function does not operate in a vacuum apart from other business activities. Finance professionals must understand the impact of their decisions on an organization’ s marketing, production, and over-all strategy. Most important, the finance major at Newman will learn that while financial markets are “a-ethical” – neither ethical nor unethical – the Newman graduate is expected to meet only the highest ethical standards, personally and professionally.
The finance major is 124 credit hours, comprised of four areas:
- Core “General Education” Curriculum* 43 credit hours
- Pre-business Courses** 21 credit hours
- Business Core Courses 33 credit hours
- Finance Major 12 credit hours
- Unrestricted electives 15 credit hours
*All students at the University, regardless of their major, must take the General Education curriculum; however, two courses in the accountancy program satisfy to of the Core Curriculum requirements.
**Admission to the School of Business is separate from admission to Newman University. This “second” admission occurs when the student reaches junior status – 62 credit hours. Admissions requirements are as follows:
- An overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better, and
- A “C” or better in all pre-business courses.
Students deficient in either of the two requirements may petition to be admitted on probation or conditional on completing pre-business courses not yet taken. |
