Welcome to the School of Business!
In his provocative book, POST-CAPITALIST SOCIETY, the late Peter Drucker placed us right in the middle of an historic economic and social Joe Goetztransformation. Where capital, land, and labor were the means of production under capitalism, in the post-capitalist society social value (and wealth) follows knowledge. And knowledge is personal:

Knowledge does not reside in a book, a databank, a software program; they contain only information. Knowledge is always embodied in a person; carried by a person; created, augmented, or improved by a person; applied by a person; taught and passed on by a person; used or misused by a person.

- Drucker, POST-CAPITALIST SOCIETY

Who is an educated person in this new society? It is the “knowledge worker” – one who knows how to allocate knowledge to productive use. Now, more than ever, that person is a product of a values-centered, holistic education, the education available in the Newman University School of Business.

A Newman University education is at the intersection of faith and reason; nothing is more central to the institution’s vision and mission. In the School of Business that precept is reflected in the purposeful integration of liberal and applied learning, a legacy from the institution’s earliest days. In other words, at the Newman B-School, you will be educated, not trained. Your education will indeed prepare you for the first or the next stage in your career, but it is not mere vocationalism. It is a process that engages your mind, inspires your spirit, encourages you to challenge established norms and practices under the rubric of intellectual rigor, and forces you to examine your responsibilities to the commonweal. That process means that every course will include more than just functional knowledge on specific business subjects, which is as far as most business education goes. At Newman, your courses will also include dispositions, skills and competencies. The knowledge worker needs more and the Newman B-School provides it.

I encourage you to surf the rest of the B-School’s web site. You will find information about our plans, our stakeholders, our programs, our faculty, and our students, and our alumni. You will find we have an entrepreneurial spirit, a commitment to excellence, and an attentive, caring, learning-centered culture. We are proud of our heritage and excited about our future.

Again, welcome to the Newman University School of Business!
