Degree Completion for ESL Endorsement Completers
In Kansas and throughout the nation, there is a growing need for teachers who can provide instruction and educational support when English is the second language for students. Emphasis is placed on the skills and knowledge that are required for Kansas Certification as an English as a Second Language Teacher. Newman’s program for English as a Second Language utilizes an innovative flexible delivery course system.
The Program
Newman University provides an easy access program that allows teachers who have earned ESL Endorsement to complete the M.S. Ed. Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with ESL Emphasis. This program allows for full use of ESL Endorsement courses in the degree program.
Curriculum
The English as a Second Language degree concentration places emphasis on using effective classroom teaching methods, selecting and analyzing educational research for application in the classroom, and demonstrating leadership abilities necessary to improve the quality of education in highly diverse settings.
Faculty
All ESL Endorsement courses are by experience Kansas teachers who hold ESL Endorsement.
All degree completion courses are taught by full time faculty members with terminal (Ph.D. or Ed. D) degrees.
Course Delivery and Program Schedule
Flexible course delivery is utilized for all courses in the program. This provides a combination of web-based instruction, specialized class sessions for special presentations and individual project study with tutorial support by highly qualified faculty members. Class sessions and student assignments are designed to be compatible with the needs of individuals who are employed as full-time teachers. This program is designed for completion in less than two years.
Degree Completion for All
The Newman University M.S. Ed. Degree Completion Program is open to those with ESL Endorsement from other institutions. Newman allows for the use of 12 semester hours of graduate transfer credits towards the M.S. Ed. Degree for those who have completed ESL Endorsement in a KSDE approved program. |
