| The Secondary Education Curriculum
|
|
All students are required to complete the core curriculum of general education. These courses consist of composition, speech, mathematics, history, science, psychology, social science, theology, philosophy, and humanities.
The secondary education curriculum con-sists of a variety of foundation courses, content area coursework and secondary methods courses.
 After completion of the required course-work in the area(s) in which secondary education students desire licensure, they complete the foundation and methods courses. The final semester is composed of student teaching.

Secondary education majors may acquire certification to teach in the following fields and subjects: biology, chemistry, computer science, English, general science, mathematics, speech, social science. Secondary education majors are required to obtain a middle-level endorsement. Students receiving an endorsement from NU must have a minimum of 6 semester hours of content in the endorsement area from Newman, excluding Experiential Learning Credit. |
