Welcome to the School of Education!
Former Secretary of Education Shirley Hufstedler said “The role of the teacher remains the highest calling of a free people. To the teacher, America entrusts her most precious resource, her children; and asks that they be prepared... to face the rigors of individual participation in a democratic Greg Mosssociety.”

The main goal of the School of Education at Newman University is to prepare future teachers and school administrators for this “highest calling.” In doing so, we shall serve our mission “to inspire and encourage students to become caring, reflective practitioners who are intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually motivated to transform, self, schools, and society.”

Newman University’s fully accredited professional education program trains more elementary and secondary teachers than any other private college or university in Kansas. We also offer graduate programs for practicing educators to improve their professional skills or add licensure endorsements. We have strong programs and thus a good reputation for turning out teachers and principals who are successful in their professional careers. Our candidates’ high placement rate following program completion and their high average scores on licensure examinations are just two indicators of our success.

We offer degrees and licensure programs in elementary education as well as secondary programs in biology, chemistry, English, history/government, and mathematics. In addition to these, we offer elementary education programs on our campus and in western and southeastern Kansas. We also offer programs for elementary teachers to add middle level endorsements in English, history, math, and science. Our graduate programs include licensure endorsements in English as a Second Language, and the Master of Science in Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction and Building Leadership.

We would welcome the opportunity to speak with you directly about your professional goals and how Newman University might fit into your plans. We would also be happy to provide additional information on programs or assist you in making application to the university. If we can help in any way, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Gregory Moss, Ed.D.
