Prerequisites
Individuals who wish to pursue a Master of Social Work degree are required to have a solid exposure to the liberal arts. While this is a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) policy which applies to all MSW programs either accredited or seeking accreditation, the specific criteria by which applicants’ academic backgrounds are evaluated varies by university. Individuals seeking admission to the MSW program at Newman University are required to have earned credits in most of the following disciplines:
  1. Language arts (e.g., English composition or Speech, etc.);
  2. Philosophy and/or literature
  3. History
  4. Social or behavioral sciences
  5. Natural or physical sciences
  6. Mathematics
In addition, applicants are required to document successful study in Human Biology (e.g., a course in Human Biology, Human Anatomy, or Human Physiology, etc.) prior to initial enrollment.

(Applicants lacking the Human Biology prerequisite are encouraged to contact Sue Reeves, who can provide information regarding a variety of options to fulfill this requirement.)
