Terry Corbett ’88, Fine Arts, Wichita, Kan.
Through a lifetime of maintaining art as his first love, Terry has earned his place as one of Wichita’s most recognizable artists. He participated in one of Wichita’s first public arts pieces, a mural at the MTA Bus Station in downtown Wichita. His ceramic work also beautifies the Blackbear Bosin and Woody Grumbo gardens at the Indian Center; Buttons Fountain at Botanica; the Solar Calendar at Riverside Park and the Gander Mountain parking facility mural. His current projects include a monolithic mosaic for Waterwalk in downtown Wichita and a Solar Field project for Sedgwick County Park. Other notable works in Kansas include the Blue Sky Sculpture at Centennial Park, Newton; the mural outside Coutts Museum, El Dorado; and Reflection mural at City Hall in Olathe. A long-time employee at the Wichita Art Museum, Terry also advances the arts as a mentor and role model, including a 12-year stint as visiting artist in the Wichita public schools. There Terry helped introduce 5th grade students to sculpture. Terry is honored tonight for his career success and significant contributions to advance public art and art appreciation.
