Jeanne (Roth) ’69 and Daniel Malone ’68, Omaha, Neb.
Jeanne and Daniel lovingly accepted God’s gift of nine children; seven daughters and two sons. Their youngest son Tim has Down’s Syndrome. In caring for Tim, the Malones came to realize the isolation and boredom faced by special needs youth. As a result of their vision and energy, the situation has improved for young adults with special needs in Omaha. On weekends and during the summer they can experience typical teenage fun through the “VSP Club” (Very Special Persons). The organization sports a clubhouse with a movie theatre, games and activity areas. In two years the club boasts 200 members, near the maximum the current program can serve. The Malones finance the project with fundraising events sponsored by their non-profit organization “Angel Guardians” and the ongoing revenue from three furniture resale shops named “Hand-Me Ups.” Always seeing that more can be done, Dan and Jeanne are now working to fund a residential housing project specially designed for their VSPs as they enter adulthood. We honor the Malones for making their vision of inclusion a reality for Tim and many other very special persons.
