WG: Jets Fifth at Lion Invitational

The Newman women's golf team dropped three spots, but still posted a top-five finish at the Lion Invitational, which concluded Tuesday in Pottsboro, Texas. Alyssa Balding's back-to-back rounds of 79 (+7) led her to a sixth-place finish.

The Newman baseball team pushed its winning streak to four, and moved to within one game of fourth place in the Heartland Conference standings with a sweep of Lincoln Tuesday afternoon at McCarthy Field. The Jets won the opener, 6-3, and concluded the twinbill with a 5-3 win.

WG: Jets Open Second at Lion Invite

The Newman women's golf team opened the Lion Invitational in a tie for second place after the first round of competition. The Jets are 23 strokes out of the lead at the event, which is being played at Tanglewood Golf Course in Pottsboro, Texas. Alyssa Balding's first round of 79 (+7) led the Jets.

SB: Javelinas Sweep Jets

The Newman softball team opened its non-conference slate on a sour note, suffering a two-game sweep at the hands of Texas A&M-Kingsville Monday afternoon at Hubert Field in Kingsville, Texas. The Jets dropped game one, 4-1, before being dealt an 11-1 run-rule loss in the finale.

WT: Ferreira Wins Again at UIW

Junior Laryssa Ferreira continued her winning ways in singles play, but it wasn't enough for the Newman women's tennis team to get past Incarnate Word, dropping an 8-1 decision to the Cardinals Monday afternoon in San Antonio.

The Newman men's tennis team was dealt another blow, this time by Incarnate Word who swept the Jets, 9-0, Monday afternoon in San Antonio, Texas. The Cardinals won convincingly at all positions to earn the sweep.

BOWL: Jets Headed To Nationals

A mid-tournament rally by the Newman men's bowling team, sparked by the clutch play of Derek Hartnell, pushed the Jets to their fourth national tournament berth in the program's seven-year history as the Jets finished third at the CBUSA Sectional Qualifying tournament, which concluded Saturday in Peoria, Ill.

BSB: Cardona's Blast Fuels Jets, 4-3

Matt Cardona's eighth-inning solo blast gave the Newman baseball team a 4-3 win over Texas-Permian Basin Sunday afternoon at McCarthy Field. Cardona's home run also gave the Jets a 2-1 series win over the defending Heartland Conference champions from Odessa, Texas.

The Newman baseball team posted a split in its first home Heartland Conference series of the season, dropping a 6-8 eight-inning decision to Texas-Permian Basin in game one, before earning an 8-5 win over the Falcons in Saturday's late game at McCarthy Field.
