Cody Shew - '03

Kindergarten Teacher -
Hyde Elementary, Wichita, Kan.

After graduating in December of 2003, in Elementary Education, Shew became a fulltime sub for USD 259. He first came to Newman in 1999 after graduating from Wichita West High School. While at Newman Shew was member of the 2002 MCAC Conference Championship team.

"Cody Shew has been the most difficult player to replace since he graduated our program." says Head Coach Mark Potter. "Nobody has as much love for his teammates and the game of basketball like Cody."

Shew is currently teaching at Hyde Elementary School in Wichita, Kan.

Chris O'Hara, Esq. - '00

O'Hara, O'Hara & Tousley
After graduating from Newman with a degree in Business in the Spring of 2000, O'Hara has followed in his father's footsteps and is pursuing a career in law. Before coming to Newman, O'Hara graduated from Northwest High School in Wichita, Kan.
 
While at Northwest, he playeChris O'Harad soccer and basketball from 1992-96. Graduating in 1996, he went on to Southwest Missouri State on a soccer scholarship as a goalie. After only one year of soccer, O'Hara decided to come back home and attend Wichita State University in the fall of 1997. It wasn't long before basketball would lure him to Newman in the spring of 1999 to play basketball for coach Mark Potter's Jets. While at Newman, O'Hara was a member of the 2000 Undefeated MCAC Conference team and MCAC Tournament Champions that went on to the NAIA National Tournament Sweet 16. He played for two seasons 1999-00 before graduating and moving on to law school at Washburn University in Topeka, Kan. He graduated from Washburn School of Law in 2003 and was admitted to the Kansas State Bar. He is currently working for O'Hara, O'Hara & Tousley located at 1223 East First St. in Wichita.
Cory Rooney

Cory Rooney, Esq. - '00

After graduating Magna cum Laude from Newman in 2000, Rooney entered the MBA program at Newman to complete his final season of eligibility. Following the 2000-01 season Rooney left Newman and enrolled at the University of South Dakota (USD) Law School. Rooney graduated in 2-1/2 years from USD Law with honors in Dec. of 2003 (his honors include editorial positions on the Law Review board). Rooney was then admitted to the Iowa Bar in April of 2003. Rooney has since relocated to San Jose, Calif. and is preparing to take the California Bar Exam in July of 2004. He is also on target to become a clerk for a Federal Judge in Iowa in September 2004.

Originally from Sioux City, Iowa, Rooney was a five-sport athlete at Sioux City West High, participating in track, soccer, baseball, basketball, and football (as a football halfback/linebacker he set a school record with 42 carries in one game his senior season). As a senior point guard, he set an all-time single-season assist record, taking West High to its first-ever appearance at the state basketball tournament. They then went on to end the season in the championship game, losing by one point to a team led by current Boston Celtic, Ricky Davis. While at West High, Rooney played for Jim Hinrich, father of current Chicago Bulls point guard and former University of Kansas star, Kirk Hinrich.

Rooney started his college basketball career at Idaho State as a red-shirt freshman before transferring to Ellsworth Community College in Iowa, where he played for one season. While at Newman, he was a starter onJohn Rapp the 2000 Undefeated MCAC Conference team and the MCAC Tournament Champions that went on to the NAIA National Tournament "Sweet 16". Rooney was a three year starter for the Jets and finished his career a combined 65-33. He also earned honors as an Academic All-American while maintaining a permanent position on the Dean's List. Rooney is currently Newman University's No.1 all-time assist leader in school history.

John Rapp, Esq. - '00

Rapp graduated from Newman in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing after a successful and "colorful" basketball career. Rapp devastated teams with his long range shooting and "football mentality" on the basketball court, which is fitting since he played quarterback at Hutchinson Community College from 1996-98. In his senior campaign at Newman, he was selected as MCAC Honorable Mention All Conference and was a fixture on the Dean's List from 1998-00. John was also a member of the 2000 Undefeated MCAC Conference team and MCAC Tournament Champions that went on to the NAIA National Tournament Sweet 16.

He graduated from Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School in Wichita, Kan. in 1996 and his ties to Head Coach Mark Potter can be traced back to his high school days. Rapp played fJeff Koerneror Potter at Kapaun before Newman from 1992-96. Rapp has since graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law in 2002 and was admitted to the State Bar of Kansas in 2003. He currently works for Hulnick Law Offices of Wichita. John is married to the former Stacy Simon of Argonia, Kan. who is also a 2001 Newman graduate, and they both reside in Wichita.

Jeff Koerner - '03

Congratulations to Jeff and Barbie! Jeff Koerner came to Newman in 2000 via Pratt Community College where he signed as a pitcher out of Northwest High School in Wichita. Koerner changed gears and decided to play basketball for Mark Potter's Jets. He became a solid role player for Potter, and one of the most "basketball smart" players he has coached. "Jeff was always in the right place at the right time," says Potter. "He was one of the most basketball savvy players we have had in our program. "After graduating with a business management degree and history minor in 2003, Koerner currently works for Wells Fargo in Wichita.
Jerod Seal

Jerod Seal - '03

Assistant Coach - Boys Basketball, Andover Central High School
Since graduating in December of 2003 in Elementary Education, Jerod Seal is currently working as a fullJerod Seal-time substitute teacher and assistant basketball coach at Andover Central High School in Andover, Kan. He was previously at Cowley College under the direction of Randy Smithson during the 2003-04 season.

While at Newman, Seal was an Honorable Mention MCAC All Conference selection during his senior campaign. He came to Newman via Cowley College in 2001, where he played (1999-01) under, then head coach, Mark Nelson. "Jerod Seal was a competitor," says Head Coach Mark Potter, "a competitor who really came into his own during his senior season."  Seal currently resides in Wichita, Kan., and plans to continue coaching.

Bin Tshomba

Bin Tshomba - '03

After graduating in the summer of 2003 Tshomba quickly returned home to Belgium to play professionally where he is still playing currently.

Marlon Sears - '01

Assistant Coach - Men's Basketball, Binghamton University
Before graduating from Newman in Dec. 2001, SearsMarlon Sears left school after his playing eligibility had run out for a chance to play professional basketball in the Leb 1 League and Pro B League in France. In his senior season as a Jet, he was honored as an NAIA second team All-American selection at the guard position.

Marlon is currently in his second season as an assistant coach to Al Walker at Binghamton University in New York. He recently made his return to Kansas when Binghamton traveled to the University of Kansas to take on the Jayhawks in Allen Field House.

Stan Dohm - '02

Head Coach - Men's Basketball Campus High School
Stan Dohm graduated from Newman in Dec. 2002. He then returned to Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kan. as an assistant coach to Chad Wintz (2002-04). Stan played two seasons with the Blue Dragons (1997-99) before transferring to Newman (1999-01) where he was a two year starter for head coach Mark Potter. In April of 2004, Dohm was hired as the head men's basketball coach at Campus High School in Haysville, Kan.. As a Jet, Dohm was a First Team All-MCAC selection and an Honorable Mention All-American. Dohm also married the former Sidni Van Allen after leaving Newman.

Jon Phelan - '03

Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences
Phelan graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology from Newman in 2003. After graduation Phelan returned home to Eureka, Kan. to await his acceptance into medical school. He was recently accepted into the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in the spring of 2004. As a Jet, Phelan was a part of one MCAC conference championship and two MCAC conference tournament championships. He was honored on Newman's Dean's Lists in 2000 and twice was named to the NAIA Academic All-American List in 2002 and 2003.
