MBB: Jets Drop Tourney Opener, 74-72

The Newman men's basketball team's first-ever trip to the Heartland Conference Championship tournament ended in disappointment Friday night, as the Jets dropped a 74-72 semi-final contest to St. Mary's Friday night at Bill Greehey Arena in San Antonio, Texas. Jaray Mathews and Chip Steven each scored 17 points to lead the Jets.

The Newman men's basketball team makes several trips to Texas each year, but none of the trips they made this season will be more important than the one this weekend, when the team travels to San Antonio to participate in the program's first-ever Heartland Conference Championship tournament.
