The Jets and Hilltoppers were whistled for a combined 48 fouls, and combined to shoot 68 free throws in the contest.

Monique Pitts scored a career-high 17 points in a game that saw both teams combine for 52 turnovers.

Arkadelphia, Ark. – Rainey Nickel knocked down career-highs of five three-point field goals and 17 points – all in the second half - but the Newman University women’s basketball team dropped a 72-62 decision Saturday afternoon at Henderson State. Nickel (Augusta, Kan.) scored 30 points in Newman’s two games in Arkansas this weekend.

Colorado Springs, Colo. – Newman University sophomore Ashley Hanson was named to the Hyatt Place Mountain Lion Classic basketball tournament on Saturday night. Hanson’s 13-rebound, 10-point effort on Friday lifted the Jets to a thrilling win over the host school, the University of Colorado-Colorado State.

Colorado Springs, Colo. – Ladessa Nachbor’s shot at the buzzer crawled off the rim and the Newman University women’s basketball team dropped a heart-breaking 71-69 decision to Adams State Saturday night. Nachbor scored a team-high 11 points for the Jets (2-4) who had won by two points on Friday.

Colorado Springs, Colo. – The Newman University women’s basketball team spoiled the opener for the host team of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs’s Thanksgiving Tournament. The Jets (2-3) led by as many as 13 in the second half and held on for a 75-73 victory Friday night.

Wichita, Kan. - Newman University Head Women’s Basketball Coach Tracy Anderson announced today that she has signed her final two players for the 2008-09 season. They are 5’10” small forward Jessica Forshee from Hesston College in Hesston, Kan., and 5’10” point guard Ellen Traylor from Owasso High School, Owasso, Okla. These two signees bring Anderson’s 2008 recruiting class to five with two point guards, two small forwards and a post player.

Wichita, Kan. - Newman University Head Women’s Basketball Coach Tracy Anderson announced that her third player of the spring signing period is Oakley, Kan., high school standout Brea Teeter. Teeter was part of the Plainsmen team that won the Class 2A State Basketball Championship in 2007 and placed 3rd at the 2A State Volleyball Tournament.
