Billy Murphy has been a part of the bowling community since he was very young. Growing up in Hutchinson, Kan., Murphy spent most of his time at his grandfather’s bowling center. As the years progressed, he realized that bowling would continue to be apart of his life forever.

In 1988 Murphy was named the National YABA (Young American Bowling Alliance) Youth Leader of the Year. Seeing his bowling career on the rise, he decided to attend Wichita State University (WSU), the only school in Wichita at the time to offer college bowling. While at WSU, Murphy achieved All-American status three times. He was also part of Wichita’s three year streak as CBUSA (College Bowling USA) National Champion Runner-Up.

After leaving WSU, Murphy spent the next six years traveling around the U.S. competing against the country’s top amateurs. During that six year span, Murphy competed in the Brunswick World Team Challenge as a member of the Ebonite Nitro R Team. In 1994 and 1996 Murphy and his teammates won two world titles at the tournament.

After all his personal successes over the years, Murphy decided to give something back to the bowling community. In 1997, Murphy and his brother, Chad, opened up Wichita Bowling Supply, a bowling pro shop that currently operates three locations throughout Wichita.

More recently in 2001, Murphy became a member of the PBA (Professional Bowler’s Association). In addition to the above accolades, Murphy has shot 22 perfect games with nine 800+ series’ with his high series reaching 823.

Murphy’s coaching experience began in 1999 for Wichita Heights High School. As head coach, Murphy lead the Falcons to a City League Championship in 2004.

Though he remains very busy owning a pro shop and coaching the Newman teams, Murphy also spends time with his two children Taylor and Halee.
