Wichita, Kan. – For the third consecutive year, Newman University was honored by the Heartland Conference, a member of the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division II, for achieving the highest combined Grade Point Average (GPA) among the conference's athletics programs. Newman has won this award every year it has been a member of the Heartland Conference.

Wichita, Kan. – Newman University first baseman Jeff Hutton was named to the All-Heartland Conference First Team, as voted on by the league’s coaches. Hutton led the Jets in 10 offensive categories in helping Newman to a 9-game improvement over 2008.

Odessa, Texas – The Newman University baseball team dropped a pair of 1-run games Friday afternoon at the University of the Permian Basin, 8-7 and 9-8. The Dust Devils scored the winning runs in the bottom half of the final inning of each game to sweep the doubleheader from the Jets.
