Troubleshooting

Username and Password Trouble

  • Your username and password for the following accounts are initially set up all the same; NU network, e-mail, JetStream, and any Blackboard accounts. Your username and password are mailed to you upon your first enrollment at Newman University.
  • You should change your initial password upon first entering the JetStream and periodically thereafter. Under the menu item, "General," click on "Change Password", enter your current password, enter your "New Password", and enter it again exactly the same in the "Confirm new password". Passwords are case sensitive and need to be at least six characters. (Although it is not required it is advised to use a combination of letters, numbers, and case).
  • We advise that you DO NOT save your password upon logging into the JetStream in order to keep your information secure. To clear a saved password; select the “Tools” menu option in your internet browser and then “Internet options…”, select the “Content” tab, and the “Auto Complete” button under the “Personal information” section, next click on the buttons, “Clear Forms” and “Clear Passwords” and then the “OK” button.
  • The JetStream login page has an option to send a forgotten password to a valid Newman e-mail address. You should periodically check your “Update Personal Information” from the General menu selection to verify that your personal information is accurate (i.e., address, phone, demographics, and student information). Click on the option, “If you have forgotten your password click HERE to have it emailed to you.” You will need to supply your student ID number and a valid NU e-mail. You can get your Student ID from the Registrar’s office or it is also listed on the top of the Degree Audit menu option and report screen.
  • You may need to e-mail cotterd@newmanu.edu if you are still having problems logging in. Username and password information can only be sent via your Newman University e-mail account.

Cookie Error

  • You will receive this error if the default setting on your computer's Internet browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, etc.) has been changed to "disable cookies." The setting needs to be changed back to "Enable Cookies." There are several browsers and versions being used, so you may have to research how to do this on your particular computer. Generally you right click on the browser icon, select "Properties," and "Security/Privacy," and look for a "cookie" setting on one of the menus (The best way is to set/apply "Default Level" back to the default).
FYI: Cookies are a way of "marking" a computer so that an application will remember the information passed to it since the application began. This is similar to checking your coat and getting a ticket in return. You can return later and retrieve only your coat and only if you have the ticket.

Other Problems

  • Turn off any filtering software or personal firewall that may be installed. You may also want to go into your browser's "Tools" menu, then under "Internet Options" click on the "Delete Files" and "Clear History" buttons.
  • JetStream uses pop-up windows. In order for these to display you will need to make sure that you have your internet browser’s pop-up blocker turned off. (In Internet Explorer you should be able to select this setting under “Tools/Pop-Up Blocker/” from the tool bar).
  • The site makes use of certain HTML coding that may not be recognized by all browsers. You will need at least version 4.79 of Netscape or version 5 of Internet Explorer. Many of the enhanced features will work, but not display their full capability except with version 6 or higher of Internet Explorer or version 1.4 of Mozilla. Do NOT use the 'Back' Browser button unless there are no other means available to return to the desired page.

"Sign Out" Link

  • Be sure to click on the upper right hand link labeled "LOG OUT (xxxxxx)" as you exit the JetStream. This is especially important if you share a computer. Otherwise, someone can login and your account will be available to view.

AOL Users

  • If you use the built-in AOL web browser and encounter difficulties accessing the JetStream, you should use an Internet Explorer or other stand-alone web browser after you launch AOL. Minimize the AOL browser, and open another browser either by clicking on it's icon or by clicking on your [Start] button and selecting the browser under "Programs." The Newman University homepage is http://www.newmanu.edu/.

Courses/Grades not displaying on "Student Complete Schedule"

  • Move the vertical scroll bar down to the term you want displayed. The label "Show/Hide TERM Semester" is a toggle link-click on it once and it expands the selection, click on it again and it collapses. You can print your schedule by choosing a "Landscape" orientation for the page setup. By collapsing and/or expanding the Terms you can customize your schedule.
  • Grades will display in real-time (as soon as they are entered into the system).
