Newman University Steckline Gallery Presents ‘Faces of Hope’ Photography Show April 25 – May 16
Wichita, Kan. – The Newman University Steckline Gallery will present the final show of its 2007-2008 season, “Faces of Hope,” from April 25 through May 16. The exhibition begins with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 25. The reception is free and open to the public.
“Faces of Hope” consists of photographs from local photographers that interpret the idea of hope. The show occurs every two years, although previous shows have consisted of masks decorated by local and regional artists depicting their ideas of hope. The exhibit at Newman will be the first juried photography show in the gallery’s history.
All photographs will be auctioned at a private reception at 7 p.m. on May 3. Tickets for the private event are $25 per person and will be available at the public opening reception April 25. All proceeds from this event will go to support the services of Open Door.
Open Door is a non-profit organization providing food, clothing and shelter to those in need. Open Door’s Homeless Services Division operates the Drop-In Center (Wichita’s only comprehensive daytime assistance center for the homeless), Vision Quest (a homeless prevention program), and the Transitional Housing Program.
In 2007, Open Door’s Drop-In Center served an average of 117 individuals each day, providing the basic services necessary to create self-sufficiency and ultimately move clients into permanent housing. The services include mail delivery, a meal, shower and laundry facilities, referrals to other community services, and case management by trained staff.
