‘First Class Jets’
Newman University Awards Scholarships, Recognizes Outstanding High School Students For 2008-09 Freshman Class

Wichita, Kan. – Newman University hosted 32 top academic high school students on April 25 during the university’s “First Class Jets” recognition program. Students and families from Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas gathered on the Newman campus in Wichita to be honored for their achievements and prepare for fall classes.

The First Class Jets program honors top high school scholars who will attend Newman University with an annual recognition ceremony and special registration events. Students have the opportunity to be the first to enroll for fall 2008 classes. They also take part in other activities including completing placement tests, touring campus and finalizing financial aid and student accounts. Newman scholarship recipients are also recognized during a noon luncheon.

“We’re here to honor the achievements you have had in your academic careers,” said Newman Dean of Admissions John Clayton, M.Ed. at the luncheon. “We want to give you not only the opportunity to be the first to register for classes, but also to recognize you for your accomplishments.”

“You are our ‘First Class Jets,’” added Newman President Noreen M. Carrocci, Ph.D. “The program is named that because you are the first in the class. You will be the leaders of the class of 2012 – I can feel it. I am thrilled that you are here and know that you will continue to grow and flourish and thrive here at Newman University.”
