Newman University Volleyball Signs Bennett, Calvi for 2008-09 Season
Wichita, Kan. – Newman University Head Volleyball Coach Maureen “Mo” Rohleder has announced the signing of two new players for the 2008-2009 season.
Angie Bennett is a junior transfer from Neosho County Community College, who is majoring in accounting. Bennett is a 5’10”outside hitter from Baxter Springs, Kan.
“At 5’10”, Angie brings size and strength to the front line, and quickness to the back line,” Coach Rohleder said.
The other new player, Kelley Calvi, is a freshman from Liberty Township, Ohio. Calvi is a 5’7” libero/defensive specialist who played volleyball in school and on a club team, and attended the USA Volleyball High Performance camp.
“Kelly is a strong defensive player with a lot of good experience,” Rohleder said. “She will be a real benefit to the chemistry of this team.”
Newman University is a member of the NCAA Division II. Newman is the only private university in the state of Kansas that is a member of the NCAA. The university fields NCAA intercollegiate teams in both men’s and women’s basketball, cross country, golf, soccer and tennis, as well as baseball, softball and women’s volleyball. Newman also offers men’s wrestling, which competes as an NCAA independent.
