Barton County Transfer Signs with Jets Men’s Soccer Team

Wichita, Kan. - Newman University Head Men’s Soccer Coach Cliff Brown announced a new signee from Barton County Community College this week. Brazilian Thiago Baby, a community college junior transfer, will join the Jets for the 2008-09 season.

During his two years at Barton, Baby scored eight goals while providing seven assists as a central midfielder. Barton County won 34 games against only five loses during Baby’s tenure at the college. Baby has been recognized as 2nd Team All-Conference in 2006-2007 and 1st Team All-Conference in 2007-2008 along with 2nd Team All-Region honors.

“Thiago will add a great deal of class to our midfield,” said Brown. “He has a great ability to maintain possession while creating opportunities for his teammates to score. In Newman scrimmages against Barton over the past two seasons, Thiago has always been a standout player full of creativity and intent. We look forward to adding him to our 2008 squad.”

Following the 2007-08 season, three of Newman’s men’s soccer players were named to the All-Heartland Conference Team, and three to the second team, following the Jets 4-13-1 regular season. The Heartland Conference is an NCAA Division II conference, founded in 1999, that currently consists of nine schools: six from Texas, and one each from Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.
