Welcome Parents!

Dear Parents and Friends,

Noreen M. Carrocci

On behalf of all faculty and staff members, welcome to Newman University! I appreciate the interest in Newman you have shown by visiting our Web site, and am happy to have the opportunity to tell you a little about our learning community.

There are plenty of exciting things happening at Newman these days. During the past year, we opened the Dugan Library and Campus Center and two new residence halls, moved forward with the transition to NCAA Division II athletics, and reaffirmed our regional academic accreditation and earned national accreditation for our School of Education.

Many more exciting events are on the horizon. Beginning this fall, for example, the Newman community will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the institution’s founding with a year-long celebration of fun and interesting events. We will communicate details of these events in the coming months. I invite you to join us on campus with your student for as many activities as you can.

Over the coming months we will also continue a plan started earlier this year to increase the number of on-campus events and activities, so that students can have a more complete collegiate experience. In addition, we are creating new methods of assessing student learning, so that we can determine better ways to help students succeed while maintaining rigorous academic standards.

As we work to provide better opportunities for the social and academic development of our students, we also explore new ways to nurture their spiritual development, and are building stronger ties with our founders and sponsoring religious order, the Adorers of the Blood of Christ.

As our mission states, “Newman University is a Catholic university named for John Henry Cardinal Newman and founded by the Adorers of the Blood of Christ for the purpose of empowering graduates to transform society.” We take that responsibility very seriously, and work hard to give our students the knowledge, experience and spiritual foundation that will indeed make them agents for positive change within themselves, their families, and their communities.

Again, I welcome you to Newman, and invite you to visit our campus and attend our many athletic and cultural events when possible. I think you’ll see that Newman offers many benefits such as small class sizes with one-on-one attention, the opportunity for students to find mentors, an environment that values faith, and a heritage of service to the community that are simply not available at many other area institutions.

Thank you for your interest in Newman University, and for allowing us to be a partner in your student’s success.
