Rohleder Resigns as Volleyball Coach

Wichita, Kan. – Newman University officials announced Maureen “Mo” Rohleder has resigned as Head Volleyball Coach, effective immediately.  Rohleder will temporarily remain in the Athletics Department, continuing her position as Senior Woman Administrator and contributing in other areas.

Jets Drop Final '08 Match

Wichita, Kan. – In their final match of the year, the Newman University volleyball team took first place St. Edward’s to five sets before falling 15-10 in the final frame.  Lauren Poe (San Antonio, Texas) pounded 16 kills for the Jets.

Jets Comeback Falls Short

Wichita, Kan. – A Newman University comeback fell short Thursday as the volleyball team suffered a four-set defeat to Texas A&M International.  It was Senior Night for the Jets and the Newman community had a chance to say good-bye to Renee Breckenridge and Breann Rozell.

Odessa, Texas – The Newman University volleyball team began a month-long stretch without a home match with a grueling 4-set loss at Texas-Permian Basin Thursday night.  It took extra points in each of the first two sets to down the Jets, though Newman’s Lauren Poe collected a match-high 14 kills.

Wichita, Kan. – The Newman University volleyball team was unable to build on a second set victory over St. Mary’s University Saturday afternoon at Fugate Gymnasium.  The Rattlers (5-7, 2-0 Heartland Conf.) struck back after that second set to defeat the Jets (4-11, 0-2 HC), 25-21, 21-25, 25-17, 25-14.

Wichita, Kan. – It took 13 games for the Newman volleyball team to play a home match but the University of Incarnate Word spoiled the affair, defeating the Jets in three sets, 25-10, 25-13, 27-25.  It was both the home and conference opener for Newman.

Portales, N.M. – Following a hard fought, come-from-behind win Thursday night to kick off the Eastern New Mexico Volleyball Tournament, Newman University ran into two tough opponents Friday.  East Central University grounded the Jets (4-7) in four grueling sets early in the day before Kansas foe Ft. Hays State took a three-set decision.

Portales, N.M. – The Newman University volleyball team rallied to win the last two sets in an upset of host school Eastern New Mexico late Thursday night, 25-23, 10-25, 13-25, 25-23, 15-12.  Three Jets registered double-digit kills to lift Newman (4-5) to a victory in the first of five matches the Jets will play at the Eastern New Mexico Volleyball Tournament.

Wichita, Kan. – Newman University outside hitter Lauren Poe was named to the Las Vegas Blast All-Tournament Team Sunday.  The Jets co-captain racked up a team-best 34 kills in the squad’s four games in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas, Nev. – The Newman University Volleyball Team continued to struggle in Las Vegas Saturday, falling in five sets to Northern State and in three sets to Bemidji State.  Newman (0-4) led Northern 2-1 in the day’s first match, but was unable to close out the team’s first win of the young season.

The Newman University Volleyball Team traveled to Las Vegas to kick off the 2008 campaign but found little luck on the court.  The Jets lost in straight sets to both Bemidji State and Northern State on the opening day of the Las Vegas Blast Tournament.
