Kansas Newman College (1973-1998)

Mary Elizabeth Giroux, the eldest daughter of Dr. Robert (d. 1/9/2007) and Anne Giroux, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010 with many of her family members at her side.  Dr. Giroux served as  President of then Kansas Newman College from 1982 – 1989.   During those years, his wife Anne was our regal "first lady" and many of his eleven children attended the college, with four earning their degrees here. 

Mary, age 51 at the time of her death, suffered from diabetes and had been seriously ill with complications from this disease and was hospitalized for several weeks preceeding her death.  The family was comforted by a wish she expressed in what would be her final day of life. . .. a wish to spend Christmas with her father this year.  

The Giroux family includes Bobby (Patricia) of Baltimore, MD; Tom ’85 (Galena) of Washington, DC; John (Lorena) of Baltimore, MD; Ed (Sam) of Rouses Point, NY; Angela ’88 (Steffen) Scheide of Bethlehem, PA; Anne ’90 (Paul) Jasinski of Wichita, Marty (Valerie) of West New York, NJ; Raymond, Washington, DC; David (Bela), Washington DC and Dan ‘95 (Christine) Giroux of Wichita.  All ten of the Giroux children were in Wichita to celebrate their beloved sister's life at wake services Tuesday, Dec. 20 and the Mass of the Ressurection held Wedn., Dec. 21 at St. Catherine of Sienna parish in northwest Wichita.  Memorials in Mary's name are established at the parish, and with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
