Phillip Spencer Green, 20, died Wednesday June 1, 2011.  He is the sister of Victoria Green, current Newman University student.  Please keep the Green family in your thoughts and prayers.

Randy and Kim Ware

Congratulations to NU Admissions Counselor, Randy Ware on the birth of his daughter Brooklyn Renae.  New baby Ware was born on June 10th, weighed 7 lbs, 10 oz. and was 19" long.  Mother and daughter are doing well and Randy would like to thank all for the prayers and support!

Pat Sweeney

Pat Sweeney, former P.E. teacher for Sacred Heart Jr. College, retired in May after a 61-year teaching career.  Most of her time was spent teaching special needs children.  Read more about her service in the Abilene Reflector-Chronicle, issue 5/17/2011.

Jeff Baker '83

Kansas Newman College (1973-1998)
Jeff Baker recently published an original story for the online magazine "Black Petals".  The story called, "Night Game" is published in the current isssue #55, Spring 2011.  The story fits in the Science Fiction Genre,  and is a twist on the usual football story.  Check it out!

Julie Schmeidler '11 has been hired by St. Peter Catholic School, Schulte, KS as a middle school math teacher.  Way to go Julie, Congratulations and make us proud!

Patricia (Bissing) Schnittker '65

Sacred Heart College (1954-1972)
Beatrice "Bea" Bissing, 98, entered eternal life on April 20, 2011 in Denver, CO where she had been living since 2001.  She graduated from Kansas State University and taught school before her marriage to Dr. Al Bissing in 1941. They spent their whole married life in Wichita, KS.  Bea loved to travel and spend time with family and friends, especially her grandsons.  She was an incredible role model as a full time wife, mother and volunteer.  She is survived by daughter...

Derek Birk '06

Newman University (1998-Present)
Thanks for the update from Derek Birk who is now married to Amy and has two children, Gracie and Caleb.  Derek works for Hopkins Manufacturing in Emporia, KS as a Product Manager.  Their family calls Gridley, KS home.  Derek credits Coach Potter for his sage advice while at Newman University on how to cope with challenges in life.  Hope to see you back on campus sometime soon!

Maureen (Mo) Higgins Rohleder '82

Kansas Newman College (1973-1998)
 Maureen Rohleder will be inducted into the Wichita Sports Hall of Fame on June 11, 2011.  She is honored for her record as Bishop Carroll Catholic High School's volleyball Coach from 1992-2004.  Mo continued her coaching career at Newman University from 2004 to 2009 and currently serves as assistant Athletic Director and Senior Women's Administrator for the NCAA-DII Jets Athletic Program.  Mo is the first Volleyball Coach to the inducted to the Wichita Hall of Fame....

Elaine Tuell Smoot SHA '59

(Kenna) Elaine Tuell Smoot died on April 12, 2011 in Bartlesville, OK where she had been hospitalized for an illness.  She is survived by husband, John Smoot.

Terry '88 and Mary '74 Corbett

Kansas Newman College (1973-1998)
Elizabeth Ann (Pierik) Corbett died peacefully on April 28, at age 90.  Originally from Chicago, Betty attended St. Scholastica College in Atchison, and later worked for IBM during WWII.  She and husband Vince (deceased) moved to Wichita in 1952.  Betty will be remembered for her deep faith, love of music and travel, and devotion to her family.  She is survived by numerous children including Terry '88, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Sending our prayers to the...
