Barbara M. Schmidt, age 62, died January 29, 2011. at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc, WI.  Barbara was born on March 15, 1948 and she graduated from Newman University in Wichita, KS. with a bachelor's degree in social work.  She married Doug Schmidt on May 17, 1974 in Larned, KS.  Barbara worked at the Great Bend Mental Health Center.  They relocated to Manitowoc in 1988, where she was employed with Coldwell Banker as a real estate agent for more than 20...

Mary "Gretchen" Keller, 63, passed away on January 22, 2011.  Gretchen taught at St. Thomas Aquinas, East Heights United Methodist and College Hill United Methodist preschools, and raised a family of five.  She was the recipient of the St. Maria DeMattias Alumni award from Newman in 1992 and was awarded the John Henry Cardinal Newman medal in 2005.  In 2007, she served as co-chair of the Dugan Library and Campus Center Capital Campaign.  Gretchen and Terry have been...

Sharon Simwinga '07

Newman University (1998-Present)
Congratulations to Sharon Simwinga for selection as Quality Teacher of the month.  Sharon became a full-time teacher in January of 2008.  She teaches fifth grade in USD 466, Washington Elementary in Independence, KS.  Simwinga is described as "a great teacher who always puts kids first."!  Keep up the good work Sharon.

Karen Ellington '07

Karen Ellington is lead vocalist for Raging Sea, a local Wichita, KS band.  Last week she recorded her first original single "Sirenia" with friend Radouane Chihaby.  It can be purchased here: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/chihaby2 for only $0.99!!  The song willl be available on iTunes in about a month and will be played on 92.7 FM the Fiesta.

Aaron took a risk and moved to Denver without a job-- but with a fine-tuned resume, a daily blog and ears peeled for opportunity.  His efforts have paid off and he is working as a problem resolution specialist for PAML-- a Catholic owned medical lab. Aaron was Editor of Vantage during his senior year, then filled a temporary role as Admissions Counselor for one year before beginning this mountain adventure.  Congratulations Aaron!
