    Uy Phi '06

    Newman University (1998-Present)
    It's been a long road from a teacher and law school student in Vietnam to now an English teacher at Derby High School, but one Uy says is worth it.  Uy Phi was recently honored for excellence in teaching in the Derby School system.  She escaped the Communist takeover in Vietnam with hopes that her chldren would have a better life and a chance to go to college.  Uy says, "It is a long story-a sad story- but we're all here now.  My kids all have a college degree, and I'm happy...

    Lisa Ann (Farmer) Garcia '08

    Wedding congratulations go to Lisa and Timothy Garcia.  The wedding was in March and the couple now reside in Omaha, NE while Lisa completes her Masters's degree in Clinical Anatomy at Creighton University.  Timothy is a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corp.

    Donette Alonzo

    Kansas Newman College (1973-1998)
    Donette Alonzo has joined Donnelly College, Kansas City, as Dean of Student Affairs.  She recently presided over the signing ceremonies for an articulation agreement between Donnelly and Newman University.  The agreement ensures graduates of Donnelly’s two-year programs admission to Newman to complete four-year degrees.  Alonzo initiated discussion of ways the two schools could collaborate during a visit to campus last year.    During the ceremonies Alonzo said, “I am...

    Jennifer Koften '07

    Kim Ebert

    Kansas Newman College (1973-1998)
    Kim Ebert joins TCK, The Trust Company of Kansas, bringing with her 25 years of retail, marketing and business experience.  Kim is an Executive Marketing Assistant, and will work with investment management services on the TCK team.  She and her family recently moved to Wichita where she looks forward to meeting new people and becoming active in her church, St. Francis of Assisi.

    Kasey Slechta '08

    Congratulations to Kasey Slechta '08 who recently took a new job as an RN for Via Christi Health.  Kasey and family live in Derby, KS.

    Jessica Martin '10

    Newman University (1998-Present)
    Jon Martin, 50,  father of Jessica Martin '10 died August 23, 2010.  Mr. Martin was a farmer who died after a brief battle with cancer.  He is survived by his wife, Gwen;  son, Jake (Emily), daughters; Valerie (Ghanem), Audrey (Cory), Jessica, Samantha, Alison and Victoria.  There are nine grandchildren.  Sending our condolences to the Martin family.

    Wanda Farmer '48

    Sacred Heart Academy (1945-1967)
    Wanda Farmer '48 was recently featured in the Wichita Eagle "Out of the Office" section.  Wanda was recognized by the National Roto-Rooter group for 50 years of continuous service as a local franchisee.

    Angela (Bergkamp) Schawe

    Newman University (1998-Present)
    Angela Bergkamp and Jeffrey Schawe were married August 14th at St. Joe Ost Catholic Church.  Congratulation to the new couple!  Angela is currently employed  by Community in Schools and works at Curtis Middle School in Wichita, and Jeffrey is a state trooper for the Kansas Highway Patrol.

    Renee Kirmer

    Sacred Heart College (1954-1972)
    Renee Kirmer, ASC, celebrated 50 years of religious profession on June 13th at the ASC Center in Wichita.  Sr. Renee earned a bachelor of science from Sacred Heart College, a MSBA from Notre Dame and a MAS from the University of San Francisco.  She has served her community in many ways including director of the aspirants for the ASCs.  She taught at Sacred Heart Academy then Madonna High School.  After serving on the ASC executive council for seven years, she became involved...
