McCarthy Field
McCarthy Field is the home field for the Jets' practices and games. A barren wheat field is now one of the best playing surfaces in the Midwest. Deemed by players as a “hitters park,” McCarthy Field has seen thousands of balls soar its walls. With dimensions of 330’ down the left field line and 315’ to the right field line, a gusty south wind helps batters swing balls over its fence. Standing 400 feet away, centerfield is the signature of McCarthy Field, a 30-foot wall, known to most as the “Green Monster.” McCarthy field’s playing area is surrounded by a shale warning track, which circles the entire inner fence line. The Jets use professional-style clay for the mound and plate, with a shale/Turface mix for the infield surface. Also near the field, the Jets have four enclosed batting cages. The Jets have an adjacent area for tee and soft-toss work as well. Pitchers are able to keep busy with access to two portable mounds, as well as a bullpen consisting of three regulation length clay mounds. |
Jet Clubhouse
Newman University is one of few schools to have a clubhouse attached directly to its field. This spacious area allows for personal lockers, a lounge area consisting of couches, recliners, a video/entertainment center, as well as ping-pong table for player competition. The coaches' office is Internet ready, with fax and phone for daily needs. This area is air-conditioned and heated for year-round use. The clubhouse was recently painted, and new tile laid to encourage players to spend free time at the field, "Our main intent with renovating the clubhouse was to make this a special place for our players, where they can come to relax, and enjoy each other's company outside of the playing field. We've really taken the locker room feel out of it, and truly made it our very own clubhouse," said Coach Rau. |
Eck Fitness Center
The Eck Fitness Center is located upstairs on the very east side of O'Shaughnessy Hall. The Fitness Hours are as follows:
Monday – Friday
7 a.m. – 1 p.m.
6 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Saturday
Noon – 5 p.m.
Sunday
Noon – 5 p.m. |
- The Fitness Center will be closed for all home varsity events.
- Current Newman ID required.
- No food or drinks allowed.
- Proper workout attire must be worn.
