Parents will have an opportunity to shop for Christmas while their children are attended to by Newman students with “Drop and Shop,” a service project offered by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Drop and Shop will take place from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6 at Fugate Gymnasium.

Wichita, Kan. – Newman University women’s tennis coach Shella Augspurger announced the signing of Ashley Dunham for the 2009-2010 school year. Dunham (Derby, Kan.) will transfer from Hutchinson Community College.

Gunnison, Colo. – The Newman University women’s basketball team wrapped up their post-Thanksgiving Colorado swing with a 63-55 defeat at Western State Monday night. Gretchen Berns posted 13 points to lead the Jets.

Golden, Colo. – The Newman University men’s basketball team could not overcome a rough shooting night in a 74-59 loss at the Colorado School of Mines Saturday night in the championship game of the Mines Thanksgiving Classic. Ryan Bradley put in 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting for the Jets.

Colorado Springs, Colo. – Newman University sophomore Ashley Hanson was named to the Hyatt Place Mountain Lion Classic basketball tournament on Saturday night. Hanson’s 13-rebound, 10-point effort on Friday lifted the Jets to a thrilling win over the host school, the University of Colorado-Colorado State.

The Newman Jets bowling program showed this weekend that it is ready to play with the “big boys” of college bowling. The ladies’ 4th place finish along with the men’s 3rd place finish mark one of the best TIER I performances of the season for both teams.

Colorado Springs, Colo. – Ladessa Nachbor’s shot at the buzzer crawled off the rim and the Newman University women’s basketball team dropped a heart-breaking 71-69 decision to Adams State Saturday night. Nachbor scored a team-high 11 points for the Jets (2-4) who had won by two points on Friday.
