Dallas, Texas – Five Newman University runners earned All-Conference honors at the 2008 Heartland Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday morning.  The Newman women placed second as a team, while the men placed third.

Jets Compete at Regionals

San Antonio, Texas – The Newman University women’s cross country team placed 11th at the NCAA Division II South Central Region championships Saturday hosted by University of Incarnate Word.  The Newman men finished in the 20th spot. The Region has 31 teams that compete in cross-country.

Ortiz Breaks Record... Again

Marion Reservoir, Kan. -- Newman University’s Melissa Ortiz continued her unprecedented success by breaking her own school record for the fourth straight race.  Ortiz finished 4th out of 107 runners at the Tabor Invitational Saturday morning.

Wichita, Kan. – Heartland Conference officials named Newman University’s Melissa Ortiz as its co-Runner of the Week on Monday.  Ortiz broke the school record in the 5K at Saturday’s Missouri Southern Stampede.

Record Falls at Stampede

Lady Jet Melissa Ortiz broke the Newman school record on Saturday at the 20th annual Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo. Ortiz a junior from Wichita West ran the 5K course in 18:34, placing 28th out of 287 runners and breaking her own record by 14 seconds. The Lady Jet’s finished 20th in the 34 team field.

Rodriguez Answers the Call to Duty

Jets Cross Country runner Arthur Rodriguez just missed 14 days of practice and the team's first meet of the year, and Coach Josh Schepis couldn't be more proud. Rodriguez was called to action through the Army National Guard shortly after the hurricanes swept through the Gulf Region.

Cross Country Rained Out

Wichita, Kan. – Friday’s cross country meet hosted by Friends University at Lake Afton, Kansas has been cancelled due to poor weather conditions.  At this time, there are no plans to make up the Friends meet, however, the team will add the Tabor Invitational to the schedule on September 27th.

Newman University's Melissa Ortiz set a school record Saturday at the Maple Leaf Invitational in Baldwin City, Kan. Ortiz placed 5th in the 4k race with a time of 15:38. Camille Johnson also placed for the Jets helping the team to a 4th place finish in the 13 team field.
