Newman University Head Men’s Soccer Coach Cliff Brown announced a new signee from Barton County Community College this week. Brazilian Thiago Baby, a community college junior transfer, will join the Jets for the 2008-09 season.

A stunning goal in the 107th minute gave visiting Texas A&M International (5-5-2, 1-3-2 Heartland Conf.) a 1-0 win over the Newman University men’s soccer team (4-10-1, 1-6-1 Heartland Conf.) Sunday afternoon at Wilkins Field. Greg Mulamba’s strike from 35 yards out in the second overtime period gave the Falcons the victory.

After losing two leads late the match, the Newman University men’s soccer team (4-9-1, 1-5-1 Heartland Conf.) connected on an overtime goal to top St. Mary’s (5-7-0, 3-3-0 Heartland Conf.) and claim the Jets’ first conference win and first home win of the year. Brian Alvarez’s clean shot into an open net in the 96th minute gave Newman a 3-2 victory over the Rattlers.

Newman Ends Losing Streak 3-2 |

A seven game losing streak was brought to a halt tonight when the men played Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM. The losing streak included six in a row at home where the men leaked nearly two goals per game while being shut-out five times. Young mistakes creating soft goals had been the downfall of the Jets during the home stand. Tonight's contest was a new story as they found the net three times and headed for Odessa, TX for their next match as winners.

Coming off of a double overtime draw on Friday, the men’s soccer team took on the Rattlers of St. Mary’s University today. Losing by a final score of 4-1, the Jets appeared to be fatigued from the start of the game forcing Coach Brown to make uncharacteristically early substitutions.

The men held on for a well deserve draw in a hard fought game with Texas A&M International in Laredo, Texas. Overcoming bus problems that left them only ten minutes to warm up for the game, the men started well but drifted as the conditions took their toll.

Newman won their second game of the season today, defeating Oakland City University 1-0. With a reworked system of play and a few changes in personnel, the Jets were impressive as they moved the ball sharply throughout the first half of the game.

The Newman Jets hit the road this weekend, headed for Drury University in Springfield, MO for the Drury Classic Soccer Tournament. The Jets entered the weekend following a tough home overtime loss to NSU on Wednesday night and were looking to put some wins on the score sheet.

The Newman University men's soccer team began the season with a rare home opener. In its first full season of NCAA D-II soccer the revamped Jets faced a tough and experienced opponent in Northeastern State University, eventually falling in overtime by a 1-2 score.
