Shella Augspurger is in her 3rd season as head coach at Newman University. Augspurger graduated from Mariemont High School in Cincinnati, Ohio where she was a 3-sport athlete and recipient of the "Doc" Kusel Outstanding Senior Athlete Award. She attended the University of Kentucky and graduated in 1980. After graduation, Augspurger decided to turn her talent of playing tennis into teaching tennis. For many years she trained and taught under former tour coach and player Rick Flack in St. Louis, Mo. While living in St. Louis, Augspurger was a pro at Town and Tennis Racket Club and the Westwood Country Club where her duties were to teach tennis, develop and promote programs and tournaments, court maintenance, and manage the Pro Shop. Augspurger has been certified by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and is still actively involved in the United States Tennis Association (USTA). Since moving to Wichita in 1999, Augspurger has been the teaching pro at Reflection Ridge Golf and Swim Club and for 4 seasons coached the Boys Tennis Team at Maize 6A High School. She has 3 children: Kevin, 23 years old and a graduate of Kansas University, Karen, 22 years old and a volleyball player from Wichita State (now playing professionally), and Derrick, 21 years old and a men's volleyball player at University of Kentucky.
