Newman Men Excel at ITA Regionals in Kansas City The doubles team of Westin Hudnall and Ryan McKeegan advanced to the semi finals of the ITA Regional Championships this past weekend in Kansas City. In a grueling match #8 seeded Hudnall and McKeegan lost to #4 seeded Lau/Waite from Graceland 8-4. The 4th place finish is the highest finish for Hudnall/McKeegan. In Singles play Hudnall advanced to the round of 16 but lost to #1 seeded Donik Arabyan 6-1,-2. McKeegan played in the finals of the consolation bracket but lost to Mennerick 8-3. Doubles team Joe Oakes and Drew Spencer made it to the round of 16 before losing to #3 seeded Nunez/Garcia (Missouri Valley) 8-1
Newman Women Soar at ITA Regionals in Kansas City The doubles team of Erica Lopez/ Dixie Matzen advanced to the elite 8 where in a hard fought match they lost to Kowel/Mela (William & Jewel) 8-5. In Singles play Both Dixie Matzen and Mallory Alexander advanced the round of 32. Matzen lost to Stephens(Baker) and Alexander lost to #3 seeded Eidson 6-3 ,6-3. Both the men's and women's team are finished for the Fall season. Plyometrics and Conditioning will fill the rest of the fall and winter until the spring season begins in January.
 Lady Jets Soar Over Friends Univeristy7- 2 Dixie Matzen, Mallory Alexander, Erica Lopez and Becky Koochel all won both their singles and doubles matches Thursday Sept. 15 at Riverside Tennis Center against neighboring Friends University. Kate Gallagher teamed up with Alexander to win at #2 doubles 8-1. Mallory Huntoon doubled up with Koochel to take #3 doubles. Total team score was 7-2 with the Lady Jets coming out on top. Next match is Tuesday against Southwestern College at Riverside.
 Jets Men Pick Up Two Wins in Opening Tournament Jr. Ryan MeKeegan , Jr. Westin Hudnall and freshman Joe Oaks won 5 out of 6 matches this past weekend against Heston College, Bethel College and Hutchinson C.C. freshman Drew Spencer made his college debut winning his first singles match as a Jet. Newman beat Heston College 7-2. Lost to Bethel College 5-4 and defeated Hutchinson C.C. 6-3.
 Lady Jets Split Season OpenerSoph. Dixie Matzen won 4 of 4 and Jr. Erica Lopez won 3 of 4 matches in the Lady Jets first day of match play for the 2005-06 season. Fresh. Mallory Alexander and Sr. Becky Koochel won both their singles matches . Texas native Kate Gallagher also made her college debut at #2 doubles and #5 singles. The Jets as a team beat defending KCAC champions Bethel by the score of 7-2 and lost to Hutchinson C.C. 4-5. |
