The Lady Jets Tennis played tough against Fort Hays State University (FHSU) but lost 7-2 on Friday, March 25. Senior Dixie Matzen won the #1 singles court in straight set 6-2, 6-1 against FHSU Sar Islas.

The Lady Jets Tennis Team picked up their first team win of the season on Friday against Kansas Wesleyan 9-0. Senior Dixie Matzen, and Freshmen Jamie Wells, Christa Lawlor and Emily Jones all turned in multiple wins over the weekend four-match series.

The Jets Women finished strong on the last day of the Barton County C.C. Tennis Invitational. Both the #1 and #2 doubles teams played in the finals but took second place. Senior Dixie Matzen went 2-1 in singles before losing to the eventual tournament champion Le Nguyen Thuy Trang in the semi-finals.

The Newman University Women’s 2006-07 tennis team earned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) All-Academic Team Award. Newman was one of only 42 teams at the NCAA DII level to receive the award. Individual Scholar Athlete Honors were also awarded to 5 Newman student-athletes.

Senior Dixie Matzen won the #1 singles court despite the Lady Jets losing the team match to Fort Hayes State 8-1. Matzen beat Rebekah Lynn 6-3, 6-3 to gain the only team point against the tough Tigers.
