Matzen enters her 4th season with the Lady Jets with a 9-4 singles record and a 5-5 doubles record from the 07 fall season. Matzen will continue to play the #1 spot as she has for the past two seasons for the Jets. Her work ethic and team leadership will play a strong roll in taking this young team into their tough D2 Conference schedule.
As a Junior in (2006-07)
Played the #1 spot in both singles and doubles for the Lady Jets. Was a top ten finisher in both doubles and singles at the ITA Individual Championships. She was part of the team that was selected to the ITA All-Academic Team Award and that placed 2nd overall in GPA for the Heartland Conference. Individually Matzen received the National Scholar Athlete award with a 3.5 and higher and recipient of the Heartland Conference Presidential Honor award. From her team she was selected as the Jets MVP for the 2006-07 season.
As a Sophomore in (2005-06)
Played the #1 singles and doubles spot for the Jets. Was a top 8 finisher at the ITA Regional Tournament in singles and doubles. Her team received the ITA All Academic Team Award and was second on campus with a team GPA of 3.4. Received the Top Gun award, given annually to the program’s most valuable player.
As a Freshman in (2004-05)
Played half the season at the # 1 singles spot. Finished in the top 10 at the ITA Individual Championships in singles. No stats available from this season.
Conway Springs High School
A 2004 graduate of Conway Springs High School where she was a three sport athlete. In tennis she was coached by Chris Bellar. Matzen finished 3rd at the 3A Kansas State Tournament in singles. She also helped her team to State Championships in basketball and track and was a First Team All-Central Plains League basketball player as a senior. Matzen was Valedictorian of her 2004 senior class.

Born April 24, 1986 in Wichita, Kan. to Jeff and Becky Matzen. Matzen has three brothers, Dennis, Brian and Scott who plays tennis at Friends University. Matzen works at Old Chicago and is majoring in accounting. |
